Lately I’ve been losing the battle I’ve been waging against busy-ness. Homeschooling has been kicking my tail and I just can’t seem to settle into a workable groove. My daughter is learning to focus a little more as I’ve been learning how to teach her all over again.

My son’s curriculum is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday – three separate shipments that I’m sure our UPS gal will hate us for. (Books and books and more boxes of books lugged up to our third floor apartment. I should bake her cookies for Thursday’s stop.) But all in all, I’m really excited about what and how much they’re learning. We’ll get there. I’m SOOO happy with it all. But the clean underwear supply gets a little low from time to time, lol.

Fidget is doing little workbooks as well, thanks to Grammie. He loves his school too, and I love seeing him happy and focused and feeling part of the action. Our dining room table gets SO full, because usually there’s a laptop or two thrown in the mix on most days. (LONG LIVE NERDS!)

Anyhow, all that to say this. Thursday morning some dear friends of ours called to ask us if we’d like to join them for a get-away. YES! We were able to spend a long weekend surrounded by the best people, eat the best food, and play in a gorgeous, remote location up by Mount Hood. I didn’t take many pictures – I’m learning that my escapes need to be a little more camera free so I can come back to the business recharged and feeling creative . . . . but I did take a few. I’ll be posting more over the next several days as I go through and savor the memories.

All weekend I kept thinking simplify. Do what you love, do what you can, and make it stand out. . . There is such beauty in the simple things. This makes me smile:

Thank you thank you thank to Ken and Mary, Mike and Lori, Eric and Jessica, Kevin and Jennifer and Louise for letting us be part of the family for a few days. We loved it – every moment.

I love scouting for new places to shoot and new things to inspire. I’m settling in to edit one last shoot (then I’ll FINALLY be caught up. YAY!) but here’s a peek at what I was doing today.

That’s one of those photos that will forever make me laugh. She was skipping along merrily, being crazy when I asked her to stop and give me attitude. Boom. This is what happened. Then she went off singing and dancing again. I love my kids. I love that we can still love each other after a long first-week of homeschooling.

Now off to edit so I can keep happy clients. . . . I can’t wait to show them all the stuff we got at their session!

I’ve been searching for a beach to use for a family session coming up, so we took the kids out last Saturday to explore a bit. There are days a body just needs to get away, to breath the fresh air, soak in the sunshine and laugh.

I have squishy kids. They love with big hearts and play with abandon – all the time. I am blessed, and watching them, playing with them, dashing through the waves with them reminded me just how much.

Tomorrow I’m hitting the edits pretty hard – I’m a few days behind where I want to be with them all, so if you’re waiting, know they’re coming! You should be hearing from me by the end of the weekend.

A while back, I had a little blog gift to give away – a free session to one of my commenters. So who was it? Dorothy!!!

What a treat to spend some time with her working on a business head shot for her website, Premium Websites. She’s a fabulous web designer, and has such a work ethic I wouldn’t hesitate to send anyone her way.

Thank you, girl, for the laughter and fun at the park! You are such an easy person to be around, and the more I get to know you the more I enjoy who you are and what you do for people.

More client pictures to share tomorrow, but tonight as I was editing a shoot I found these pictures. My daughter helped me during this particular session, holding scrims and reflectors. (She’s a dear and I wanted to see if coming along with me and helping this way would be something she would enjoy.) On our way back to the car, while she was happy and carefree I was reminded again of what a little treat she is:

We’re clinging to the last vestiges of summer here at our house. I messed up our school just a tad, and as a result our curriculum won’t arrive for about two more weeks. (Should I admit that I’m not really all that disappointed about that?)

Yesterday I needed a break, so we headed down to the river in search of some wide open spaces for the kids to run for a bit. They loved it, but I couldn’t help think how lonely the playground looked now that most children are in school.

I think it was really happy to see us, and hear our three children’s laughter as they played.

But despite that, I’m looking forward to the structure fall brings, for I have SOO many plans and ideas in my head that have just scrambled around in there all summer. Be on the lookout!!

This girl and her family have such a special place in my heart. They have stood behind us, prayed for us, encouraged us, and just plain loved us over and over again. What a privilege it was to photograph Emily last night here in Vancouver. We had plans to shoot in one location, but when we got there found it completely, unavoidably under construction. So what to do when that happens? Punt! And what fun we had as a result, because we found this awesome alley and abandoned railroad track. Poor mom was bit worried we were about to get run over by a barreling train I think. (And to be honest for the first part of the shoot my thinking was about the same, but the tall weeds on the track had a calming effect on those thoughts, lol.) We survived!!!!

Thank you, Emily, for your willingness, your sweet spirit, and your awesome smile!
